MBChB; M.Med pediatrics and child health; MSc Pediatric and adolescent endocrinology, University of Nairobi. She is a pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist with extensive experience in public health sector.
Currently the president of PESK and treasurer, ASPAE. She successfully spearheaded development of the national 2024 T1DM guidelines, training and mentorship material on T1DM in collaboration with Ministry of Health. She was a team lead in the training of select healthcare workers in the country. Her interests are in diabetes, Global Health, Health systems, Health policy ad governance and Leadership and management in Health.
Dr Phoebe Wamalwa a dedicated Pediatrician and passionate Pediatric endocrinologist in the public sector, currently contributes her expertise to Kajiado County Referral Hospital in Kenya. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery and a Masters of Medicine degree in Pediatrics and Child Health, as well as a Master of Science degree in pediatric and adolescent endocrinology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Serving as the current President of the Pediatric Endocrine Society Kenya (PESK), she has excelled as a team lead, working closely with colleagues in Pediatric endocrine society, the Ministry of Health and partners in developing guidelines and training curriculum for Type 1 Diabetes amongst children and adolescents in Kenya. Together with the PESK and partners, she has spearheaded the training of healthcare workers in all the 47 counties in Kenya on Type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents. Dr. Phoebe also serves as a treasurer of African Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology (ASPAE). She is an active member of International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), European Society of Pediatric endocrinology (ESPE), PAFLAR and Kenya Pediatric Association (KPA). She has special interest in Global Health, Health system strengthening, Health policy ad governance and Leadership and management in Health. As a result, she has received various certifications from renown international institutions in these fields.
Driven by a deep commitment, she focuses on improving the lives of children and adolescents with rare endocrine, metabolic diseases and Type 1 diabetes ensuring early diagnosis, accurate management and screening of long-term complications.
